Technology is killing the art of joke telling, claims a new study published today.

Today, a surprising 40% of us choose to use email, social networking and text to tell jokes to one another instead of relaying them face to face. And because email jokes tend to be yarns or visual gags, one of today's leading comics believes that the art of pitching the one-liner could be as dead as Monty Python's parrot within less than a generation.

Comic Dom Joly claims: "In the old days, we'd watch comedy and then re-tell our favourite gags to our pals face-to-face at work, at parties or other social gatherings.
