In the early 40's, with his City and Guilds Baker's Certificate in hand, local Nottingham lad Ken Parr set up a pie shop with £9000 of borrowed money. His reputation for crusty pies became renowned and he soon had eyes on a local shop owner's pie shop - Pork Farms.
Ken Parr transformed Pork Farms into one of the most popular shops around and set about buying more outlets and spreading the word.
In 1965, Garfield Weston, a legendary tycoon with a huge food empire, bought Pork Farms of which Ken became Chairman. Things ticked along nicely, but at the same time, rival Nottingham pie company T.N Parr (owned by the Samworth family, and incidentally formerly owned by Ken's uncle!) was also expanding and in 1969, T.N Parr bought Pork Farms and the two famous Nottingham 'pie' families were fused.
From that day, they traded under the name Pork Farms and the company started the successful rise to where they are today - the UK's favourite pork pie makers.
