Owen Swift from Coulby Newham in Middlesbrough was our final unsung hero of 2017.
Owen was nominated by Mum, Rosie Swift who said: “Owen became ill 18 years ago, which left him in a wheelchair full time, yet he does such a lot for everyone else. Owen plays and coaches at Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club and has raised thousands to set the club up and purchase wheelchairs so that other disabled people can enjoy the sport, just as he does. Owen is on the Middlesbrough Official Supporters committee where he regularly organises and runs weekends away for children with Transverse Myelitis and their families.
“Owen turned 18 on November 13th 2016 and he didn’t have a big party as there is always a risk he will be in and out of hospital with his illness. For this and many other reasons, Owen really deserved a Pop Up Party to celebrate all that he does for others while dealing with his own medical issues.”
Owen’s pop up party was held at Middlesbrough football club and was attended by friends and team mates including Roary the mascot for the Middlesbrough F.C and the Chief Executive of the football club, Neil Bausor.
