The culmination of our Your Pie Your Way competition saw well known national radio presenter and foodie expert, Nigel Barden, taste the winning creation live on BBC Radio London.
Your Pie Your Way asked the nation to submit ideas for their own unique and inspiring pie creations. Claire Tunnard won the trophy with her suggestion of a Thai pork, lemongrass and coconut combination.
We created the winning pies and sent Nigel Barden, a regular on Simon Mayo’s BBC Radio 2 drive time show his special bundle of Thai pork pies, which he put straight to the test during his live tasting segment on BBC Radio London.
Joined by long-standing presenter, Robert Elms on his prime time show, the pair revealed their initial thoughts on Claire’s champion pie. Nigel Barden said; “This really is something different, it has got lemongrass in there, coconut and Thai style pork. They’ve used good Lincolnshire pork in it, which is important to reiterate the use of local produce.
“I think this is very different, very out there and such a good story behind it. It is a really good indication of how good the pork is that goes into these pies from Pork Farms. Although the winning flavour is unusual the sweetness is nice, a huge well done to Claire Tunnard, who created such an interesting pie.”
Now the experts have given Pork Farms the official thumbs up and with Christmas around the corner, the staple pork pie is sure to take centre stage on buffet tables up and down the country. Pop out for a pie this winter season and indulge in our succulent pork wrapped in hot water crust pastry that is sure to melt in your mouth!
